An avalanche hit the Siachen base camp of the army trapping hundreds of jawans.


At least 150 soldiers in a military camp are feared trapped after a massive avalanche hit snow-bound region of Siachen.

According to details the incident occurred in Giari Sector, the mountainous area of Siachen.

Rescue teams from other parts of the region have rushed to the spot. Avalanches and landslides are common in the disputed region.

The Most Trickiest part is the weather , if is is clear then Rescuers will be Air Dropped via hellies , but if it is not then they will have to go on foot & that will take time , lets just pray weather stays clear until the Rescue is complete.

A security official says an avalanche has buried 130 Pakistani soldiers in a Himalayan region close to India.

The incident happened early Saturday on the Siachen Glacier, where thousands of Pakistani and Indian troops are based.

The security official says snow engulfed a battalion headquarters in Gayari district.

He spoke anonymously because the military had yet to release a formal statement.

Siachen is on the northern tip of the divided Kashmir region claimed by both India and Pakistan.

Couple of months back, we lost 17 of our Indian soldiers during the avalanche tragedies.

i dont understand the news...
what they mean by "trapped"?
the soldiers are transported up there by lama helicopters......even if an avalanch blocks the road still they arent trapped as it wont stop lama helis from going up there?
and its highly unlikely to have 150 soldiers buried by an avalanch.
There is something wrong with the news.

some of my family members served up there and a soldier or two falling in the glacier cravasses or washed away by avalanch is normal there but 150??
