I am glad that they do so. I have read earlier that for many they are just tourist attractions and not something they relate to as part of their ancient and proud heritage.

If that is not true or is changing, it is all the better.

It is a positive thing that they are treating their heritage with respect. I think they need their own psychological space to evolve their own unique identity which may blend various historical influences to various degrees. Let's not be too demanding.

Sham El neseem is the only one celebrated by almost all Egyptians, it is a very big festivals. Its a day in which ancient Egyptians celebrate the beging of the spring. Most of the other festivals were religious and were replaced long before Egypt was Islamic by the Romans, and the Egyptians since most Egyptians were Christians. Pre- Islamic festival all exist, since we have a huge Christian community in Egypt, and they have their Christian festivals. We also have this, which is pretty cool and amazing Abu Simbel Sun Festival « February « Somewhere in the world today…
