What's new

Russia Buys 92 Su-34 bombers

Just an APU and flares? and suvch a large appendage for these components which other planes easily carry without such large protuberance ,,,
I am disappointed..
The Russians have their reasoning.... The APU and Flares might be that due to side by side Cockpit for Pilot-Navigator I think.

Note the unconventional design of Cockpit.....

The Su-32FN has the same aerodynamic layout of the Su-33 and Su-35 of the three control surfaces with the addition of forward candards. Besides that it is a different aircraft. The whole fuselage from nose to sting has been completely redesigned. The cockpit is a side by side configuration similar to the Su-24 and F-111. The nose cone is slightly flattened and has been described in having the appearance of a 'platypus' duckbill. The larger cockpit has a humbed appearance and was continued to a smothered dorsal spine and to a lengthened and enlarged sting. The enlargement was done to maintain the center of balance with the increased weight of the enlarged cockpit. The cockpit is protected by almost half a ton of titanium armour and attention has been paid to crew comport on long flights with features such as a toilet. The cockpit is also quite modern with a wide angle HUD for flight navigation and final attack information with head down information being displayed on a number of Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT) - Multi Function Displays (MFDs). With the massive increase in internal space not only has the avionics been able to be expanded but there is a total of 3,600 kg more fuel and the sting has enough space for a MiG-21 sized rearward facing warning and fire and control radar.
To me it seems more of Radar.... Can anyone actually say what it is?
The landing gear has been strengthened for the heavier weights and has also been increased in length to facilitate the carriage of larger weapons such as the Kh-41 Moskit supersonic anti-ship missile which weigh 4,500kg and is 9.4 m in length. The available range of weapons that can be carried has been increased and using 'smart' weapons targets can be attacked from standoff distances as much as 250km. The Su-32FN can also carry defensive AAMs, but they are not just the usual short range self defence R-73E but medium and long range R-77 fire and forget missiles massively increasing the Su-32FN's effectiveness. The Su-32FN is also expected to carry the rearward firing R-73 missile.

This thing's range is unbelievable. Its role is a cross between the BlackJack and the Su-30.

There is no radar there. There is APU and flares:

The export version of Su-34 is called Su-32. But no one buys it, sunce Su-30 is more versatile.

Wrong. There's a rear facing radar in there (that's linked with the main radar).

FLUG REVUE March 2007: Suchoi Su-34 delivered at last

The Sch141 Kishchnik mission system is integrated by Leninetz Holding of St. Petersburg. This includes:
the W004 radar system with passive electronic scanning. This can capture targets on the ground or in the air. In navigation mode it displays a radar map and allows automatic low-level flying.
the W004 radar system in the long tail boom between the jet engines. This surveys the area behind the aircraft for enemy aircraft.
the Kibiny system (L175W) for electronic combat management. It is made by Kaluga-based KNIRTI and works with radar warning receivers to accurately localise threats, an infrared-based rocket warning system, active jammers and chaff/flare dispensers (each with eight cartridges).
the K102 system made by Ramenskoje-based RPKB for controlling the aircraft's electronic systems, including the navigation system, the displays and the KSS-2 communication system.
the Platan homing system with a TV camera and laser target illuminator made by Yekaterinburg-based UOMZ. Geofizika in Moscow was brought in to develop an electronic optical navigation and targeting pod.

The Su-34 is an advanced Russian 2-seat fighter-bomber and strike aircraft. It is intended to eventually replace the Sukhoi Su-24. the Su-34 has a modern glass cockpit, with colour CRT multi-function displays. Its avionics currently are based around a Leninets V004 passive electronically scanned array radar, and a UOMZ laser/television system for designating and guiding precision-guided munitions. The front-mounted radar is supplemented by a rear-aspect V005 radar housed in the long tail "stinger". The Su-34 is equipped with comprehensive ECM equipment, including an infrared missile launch detection system.

For what role? Of course worthy enough because everyone cant afford 5th Gen as of now...

su 34 has no wide role and puls a multi role fighter jet can do more in less cost
