MKEK BORA-12 SniperRifle won Pakistani sniper tender

I think the main objective was to enhance night fighting capibilities.....

What is the sniper system in the PA?

Dedicated sniper divisions or units, having snipers only, or a sniper teams gets allocated to each Infantry unit or Infantry div?

The PSR 90 is a semi automatic sniper rifle which would inherently be less accurate while giving other advantages. The Bora 12 on the other hand is a bolt action rifle which has other strong points when compared to a semi automatic rifle. Both will be used.

In the field, Pakistan Army will almost always use a bolt action sniper rifle unless there is a revolutionary and affordable technology for semi-auto rifles. I think the PSR-1 was specifically aimed for Police units and IS roles.

i guss a lot of change have occured since WOT because last i remember sniper were lone rangers or assasians in a team of 2 on eastren border but now they ccur in mixed formations both with units or alone..BTW we use SSG STYER and a varity of rifels.

Each Infantry unit has a certain sniper compliment (a section would typically have an individual or two who are qualified snipers). Thus far they have been equipped with Steyr SSG69 and these rifles are to be replaced. So the number is fairly significant (high hundreds).

Nope.

There is a new Sniper Rifle Scheduled for Next Year. A new DARPA-funded electro-optical system which can calculate the ballistics and signal where to aim and ensuring a perfect shot, no matter the weather conditions.

It will measure atmospheric conditions, account for the weapon’s maximum effective range and include GPS coordinates. It’s also supposed to communicate with the rifle scope, informing the gun itself of the aim point offset and expected crosswind.

USA !

Technology is great, but so would the cost of the rifle. The reality is that for most countries like Pakistan, a decision has to be made that is mindful of the cost of the system to be inducted. I am sure the US has better hardware in the pipeline/R&D, but not all can afford or purchase it.

Have said before and will say again, we should start & collaborate with the Turks much more.

Economic front and especially military front. Lot of projects which has benefits for both of us, be it land forces, air force or navl forces. From an assault rifle / sniper rife to tanks, artillery guns, rockets & missiles, lot of potential on both sides.

Turks are really going forward with leaps and bounds in their projects. UAV's, tanks, ships, Standard issue rifles( a area which can definitely be exploited by the PA).

i know most of you don't understand Turkish, but for those of you that do:

if you carefully listen to the video, u will understand that the tender process is still on-going....no contract has been won yet. However we have much cooperation with the Turks; the last major cooperation being Havelsan's Arty forward observer simulator which was inducted primarily for sniper training.

Turkish military/industrial complex is matured now and as Taimikhan said --we should definitely expand our defence ties with the Turks where and when it suits us best. They are a NATO country meaning they have access to NATO tech and have joint ventures with other NATO countries --which gives them more experience and hands-on with the latest gen tech.

of course they dont come with the ''NATO-baggage'' and we see eye-to-eye with them, given the age and history of our friendship
