80 temples demolished in Modi's capital
13 Nov 2008, 0106 hrs IST, Rahul Mangaonkar & Kevin Antao, TNN

GANDHINAGAR: Before you call Narendra Modi Hindutva's poster-boy, take this. Gujarat's capital, Gandhinagar, has razed to the ground 80 temples or their encroaching boundaries, since authorities began a drive against illegal encroachment in one month.

The campaign, which started on October 13, went into top gear on Wednesday when 15 small and medium temples were demolished on two roads. A lesson, perhaps, for twin-city Ahmedabad's civic authorities who have failed to carry out a Gujarat High Court directive against shrines obstructing movement of traffic in the city.

A team of officials from the Gandhinagar collectorate, police and forest officials participate in the demolition operation. A survey conducted by the Gandhinagar collectorate officials showed 107 temples having illegally come up along the main roads and about 312 in the interior areas of various sectors. All of these will be removed.

Apparently, the first temple was demolished around Diwali and there was not even a protest as the demolition was carried out in the dead of the night. Six temples around Gh-5 circle and adjoining areas vanished within hours.

Two days later, VHP organised a protest rally in Gandhinagar, supported by members of Mahagujarat Janata Party, comprising mainly of BJP rebels. The demolition drive can also be seen in the light of the recent arrest of VHP's Ahmedabad general secretary Ashwin Patel on sedition charges for circulating anti-Modi SMSes.
Gandhinagar collector Sanjeev Kumar says, ``This is part of the ongoing drive in which all encroachments are going to be removed. We will bring down any illegal structure on government land.''

It is a good move nothing should come in between development. Hail modi ji

I don't trust anything about this guy.

Probably a fluff pieced he has bought off or coerced the press into writing about.

This is clearly not a fluff piece, and the Indian press does not get "coerced" into writing anything. Especially not the TOI.

This guy murders 2500 Muslims to appease Hindus. He's not going to raze down their temples just like that.

Either its BS or he has some motive. This guy is the scum, the worst mankind has produced. Don't trust this slimy bastard for your own sake, I'm telling you.

Nope he is a very good administrator and under him gujrat has made gr8 progress. And he is democratically elected not any dictator or something.

All that progress is not worth the lives of 2500 people. We'll see the true assessment of his success once he gets off the seat.

Hes democratically elected because Gujarat has a majority that is like him. The state has gone down the gutters because of him if you ask me. His repeated success has me losing hope for humanity within that state. No human being would vote for massacre at this scale. Gujjus gave their stamped approval, their nod, their appreciation when they re-elected him. Gujju Muslims openly cuss India, they have the most dreadful stories to tell. It's ALL because of this one man! He has SOLIDIFIED the enmity of the entire Muslim pop of Gujarat. Those Indians are good as being called Pakistanis now.

I saw their support in the two matches Lahore Badshah played in Gujrat. They even came wearing Shalwar Kameez with the namaaz cap just to stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Asim, please check the investment that is gone in to the state. And this is his 3rd term. So he has already got re elected. Whatever has happened has happened move on. There is no point in keep repeating the same thing again and again. He has proved him self a good administrator.

I don't know if you believe in a God...

But I do. And I know I will be questioned if I don't diss this SOB down every chance I get. And even if you don't, then you cannot consciously condone murder of your countrymen, for progress? It's just not enough to survive, you should be worthy of survival. So I hope that there are many more voices that would continue dissing Modi, no matter what, I just can't stop. Not "if they were to put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand"*1

Asim the matter of fact is that he has been accepted by gujrat people. Whatever has happened has happened you can't change it. Law is taking it's course. You can't just stick to one point and keep sticking there only. Move on.

LMAO :D yes move on because its our yearly routine...now this year christian killings..2002 Gujarat violence...2006 Aligarh Riots...1984 Anti-Sikh massacre..1957 Ramnad riots.I read a article by Kuldip Nayer(Indian journalist) he said its very little chance Modi will ever be tried in a court because he has everyone in his pocket.

If Bin Laden becomes President of AQLand, filled with AQ voters. Do we just let him off because all of AQ has accepted Bin Laden?

There is no freakin difference between the two. I think Modi might have killed a lot more people over the decades.

VHP slams Modi over temple razing drive
11/14/2008 4:59:45 PM

It’s a move that’s widening the rift between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad in Gujarat as Chief Minster Narendra Modi has now launched a demolition drive against illegal structures in Gandhinagar, razing as many as 80 temples to the ground.

The Gujarat government maintains the move which has been on for three days now, is an anti-encroachment drive against illegal structures in Gandhinagar. Today, the Maha Janata Party, a breakaway faction of the BJP, has announced that it would stage protests over a drive that it terms illegal.

The VHP is viewing this development against the backdrop of the recent arrest of its Ahmedabad General Secretary Ashwin Patel, for circulating anti-Modi and defamatory SMSes. The Gandhinagar city administration however has said that the move is only aimed at freeing up roads from illegal structures.

But VHP leader Kaushik Mehta said that the party would raise voice on the issue and will later announce the party's course of action. Kaushik Mehta, General Secretary, VHP, Gujarat, said, “A lot of temples have been pulled down. It should not happen. There are so many dargahs on the road, but not one has been touched. We will sit and decide what to do about this.”

Dear agno

Unlike few other countries India judiciary is impartial and the reason why Modi has not been punished is because there is too much rumour and less facts .

Myths of Gujarat Riots : Gujarat Riots: The True Story

Let me quote about the myth of 2000 death

India Today weekly reported in its issue dated 20 May 2002, when the riots had almost stopped that “Total dead- 972″ (For details, see page no 70).
Out of these 972, India Today included 57 people killed in Godhra. If anyone sees the English newspapers of those days, i.e. between 10 to 21 May 2002, no riots took place in Gujarat in those 10 days at all, and the Army left Gujarat on 21 May. A maximum of 20 more deaths might have happened in Gujarat after that. The death toll in Gujarat riots would thus be 935.
I myself recall reading in Nagpur-based English daily The Hitavada that 936 people were killed in the Gujarat riots after the Army left Ahmedabad on 21 May 2002.
Adding the UPA’s figures of 790 Muslims and 254 Hindus, we have a total of 1044 people killed in the Gujarat riots, a 100 more. Hence, the true figures may well be 682 Muslims and 254 Hindus, a total of 936 people killed.
